Before cooking Asparagus you should trim the woody ends of the asparagus spears. This is done by holding the spear and gently bending the stalk with both hands until it snaps (as shown in the video). It has a natural breaking point where woody bottom end meets the tender part.
2 Easy Methods to Cook Asparagus
Below are the 2 simplest and most flavorful ways to cook Asparagus.
Oven Roasted Asparagus
The oven roasted Asparagus version takes your asparagus to the next level. Lemon juice adds a refreshing zing while garlic and sprinkling of Parmesan cheese in the end adds a flavorful punch and enhances this side dish.
For this Garlic Lemon Asparagus recipe toss the Asparagus gently to coat all the spears evenly with the seasoning and then roast them in a pre-heated oven.
Time for roasting varies depending on the thickness of the Asparagus spears. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn't overcook and take this Lemon Garlic Asparagus out of the oven when the spears are slightly brown, crispy and somewhat charred around the edges but are still tender and you can easily pass a fork through them.
Serve this Baked Asparagus hot from the oven and finish with a sprinkling of finely grated Parmesan Cheese.
Pan Roasted Asparagus
The second method highlights the natural flavors of Asparagus with minimal ingredients while keeping it light and satisfying. With just a bit of olive oil and seasoning this method is quick and easy and makes this Pan Roasted Asparagus suitable for any meal.
For this method first dry roast the asparagus spears in a pan on medium heat till they start letting out steam. Then add olive oil and seasoning and cook them whilst turning constantly. You will know they are done when spears bend slightly from top when lifted but still have some firmness to them (as shown in video). These Sauteed Asparagus should be tender but still have a bit of crunch to them.
Above two reliable methods guarantee delicious results every time. Only thing to consider while roasting Asparagus is the thickness of the asparagus spears. Thicker asparagus spears will take longer to cook, so adjust the cooking time accordingly.
